Minister of Health Arūnas Dulkys Members of the Freedom Faction received at the Government hour of the morning sitting of the Seimas on Thursday Ieva Pakarklytė the question of when many people have been vaccinated with Vaxzevria, when it will be possible to bring forward the second dose of that vaccine.
“Unfortunately, more and more people are not choosing this vaccine for the first dose, and those numbers are likely to continue to fall and the residue to build up. Yes, numbers are provided for booster vaccinations, but accumulate for the first dose.
The launch of the European Green Certificate also contributes. Yes, there is a possibility that it will be valid after the first vaccination, but it is left to the parties to decide. Consequently, there is no such guarantee. People are planning their holidays and, obviously, the need to advance the second dose does exist, ”I. Pakarklytė thinks.
The member of the Seimas noted that the planned amounts of the vaccine allow to inject the second dose not earlier than after 8 weeks. So the parliamentarian asked if it was planned to do so.

A. Dulkys stated that the difference between the weeks depends only on the available options and the total quantities of vaccines.
“Yes you are right. We now have enough of those vaccines to run this issue. We calculated all the scenarios: both 8 weeks and 4 weeks, as the manufacturer allows 4 to 12 weeks. We seem to be moving towards a decision that will be made in the coming weeks, perhaps even next week. We will probably make it possible for a person to choose not only 8 weeks, but a distance that would be comfortable for him as much as the manufacturer allows between 4 and 12 weeks, ”the Minister promised.
Nevertheless, A. Dulkys emphasized that the SAM will continue to recommend compliance for 12 weeks, because, according to the Minister, “this time distance has the greatest protection for human health”.
