The durable Apple watch lay at the bottom of a lake for 3 months
After being fished out, they were fully functional
The durability of modern electronics is a frequent topic of professional and lay debate. A number of smartphones and accessories boast various resistance certifications, the most common being IP or MIL-STD standards. The Apple Watch smart watch also boasts water resistance, starting with the Series 2 model. However, with the arrival of the Ultra model, which is aimed at more demanding customers, many users began to wonder how much the most durable watch from Apple can actually withstand. Compared to the standard model, the giant from Cupertino provided them with water resistance up to 100 meters, which the American Amir Noorani did not hesitate to try in practice.
Apple Watch Ultra survived 3 months in a lake
Of course, he didn’t throw his first generation Apple Watch Ultra into the lake on purpose, but accidentally lost it in the watery depths of Lake Travis in the US state of Texas. Unfortunately, while the watch is designed to not come off the wrist easily, Noorani was wearing it on a silicone strap, which is more prone to unfastening than, for example, an Alpine movement. The Apple Watch Ultra thus ended up approximately nine meters below the water surface.

Noorani did not want to accept the loss of his watch and even hired a diver to fish it out for him, but this action was unsuccessful. The unfortunate Noorani then turned on the Lost mode on the watch, which would let the potential finder know who the watch belonged to before it was lost. Although he certainly didn’t have much hope that the watch would eventually be found, the opposite turned out to be true. His Apple Watch Ultra was eventually found by a random diver, not after a few days, but about three months after it was lost.

The latter managed to read the necessary information from the still functional watch and did not hesitate to contact Noorani to pass it on to him. They were understandably very dirty after a long stay at the bottom of the lake, but the old owner managed to clean them properly and according to him, they now work “like new”. Although Apple obviously cares about the quality of its products, you better not try a similar piece with your watch.
