For the representative of Customs, not the shadow of a doubt: it is indeed yet another case of commercial transport of alcohol, without title of movement. In this case, known trafficking between Luxembourg and Sri Lankan grocery stores in the Paris region.
This time, more than 2,100 liters of whisky, rum and vodka were discovered in January 2022 in the trunk of a van, during a roadside check on the A31. The two men arrested reside in Sevran and Aubervilliers and appeared this Tuesday, March 14, in Thionville.
“Small hands, fuses” who did not know each other, according to their respective lawyers, paid €250 and €500 by an unknown sponsor, whose name – unverifiable – will be revealed late on the day of the hearing.
One of the defendants already sentenced
One of the defendants, the only one who was able to speak a little in French, drew the court’s attention, given his profile: “He is rooted in this very remunerative form of crime, sometimes with tobacco, sometimes with alcohol. Already convicted, he will soon have to respond to other legal appointments, ”noted the prosecution.
The duo will have to jointly pay the sum of €18,746 in respect of the defrauded rights, to which are added €10,000 in penalties. Finally, they will each have to pay €400 in tax fines. The prison requested by the public prosecutor was not retained by the northern Moselle jurisdiction, because in this case, they were not accused of smuggling.
