There was a lot of hustle and bustle on Friday afternoon, when we visited one of the region’s popular open-air markets, which recently celebrated its 7th birthday, and which attracts customers looking for homemade products from the surrounding towns with its wide selection of quality goods and its special atmosphere.
The recently built modern stalls are lined up next to each other, from which you can smell from afar the mouth-watering fresh, beautifully colored goose crackers, the smoked sausage and ham, the sourdough bread, the captivating red strawberries, the huge mushrooms, the special cheeses, the vegetable preparations. and a rich display of fruit varieties.
– We really like the product range of the Kispiac at the airport, we have been here almost every Friday since it opened – says Rita Dömötör appreciatively, who revealed that they go shopping in Dunakeszi from Fót, because here they can buy quality, good-tasting, homemade products.
– We prefer meat, sausage, eggs, and dairy products bought at the farmers’ market over large-scale products, because we know where it comes from and who we bought it from. The taste of homemade products is much tastier, not to mention healthier. In terms of value for money, I get more and tastier for my money than in a chain store – we heard from Rita Dömötör.
It was nice to see and hear the direct, good-natured conversation and professional exchange of ideas between the customers who came for the weekend shopping and the vendors offering their products about the tricks of preparing delicacies.
Near the “kingdom” of meat, dairy, and cheese, I discovered a married couple offering seedlings at their stand.
– I grow my own plants and sell them. I got an opportunity at the market last year, which I am very happy about – informed Gyöngyi Jánosné Fótos, who served the customers together with her husband.
– What do you experience, how do customers respond to the fact that this small farmers’ market has been operating in Dunakeszin for seven years?
– The people I spoke to all praise it, they are happy to come because there is a large selection and the products are good. They love and insist on homemade preparations because they know where and from whom the goods come from – he summarized the opinions of many.
János Fótos said that they also sell at the small market that opens twice a month in the Barátság út housing estate. “We also welcome customers there with garden and indoor plants, seedlings and a good heart,” he said. He added that there are elderly people living in the housing estate who go to the airport market square, but it is far from home for most of the people living in the city center. – I would like the housing estate to have a market day more often, with an even larger selection of goods – explained the customers’ needs, Mrs. János Fótos.
Zsuzsa Kovács, the “mother and everything” of the small market in Dunakes, which is now nationally famous, is celebrating its seven-year birthday. With her exemplary determination and persistent organizational work, she not only brings special gastronomic pleasure to the families of Dunakes, but also the surrounding settlements, week after week.
- Everything here is about the customers and the producers, it is done for them, says Zsuzsa Kovács, who operates the market. From the very beginning, we have felt the trust and love of our customers, which is why we want to give them a present on the occasion of our birthday. “Small market7!” our prize draw lasts until June 10, there are still plenty of offers from producers waiting to be drawn among our customers!
My most important experience with the market is that our customers appreciate the work that goes into the production of food from backyard, small producers, appreciate the high quality, and are happy to meet the producer and buy directly. In seven years, our sales conditions have improved continuously, we have a good relationship with the municipality, and we can operate in a supportive environment.
But we can’t sit back for a moment: we have to work continuously on expanding the range and replacing the lost vendors. This is especially true for our Bárátság út market days. Our goal is to organize exciting and attractive programs for our visitors in addition to delicious flavors. We want to popularize it as widely as possible and make it a habit to go to the market – he almost sums it up.
He also speaks very frankly about the fact that due to the difficult economic situation, people are buying less because their wallets are thinner. – We are especially grateful to all those who spend part of the money intended for food, vegetables or fruit here at the market, directly contributing to the livelihood of the selling families. Small producers pass on their increased costs to customers to a lesser extent than average, because the key to their survival is retaining customers – explained Zsuzsa Kovács, who, in summary, highlighted that producers and customers finding each other and standing by each other gives a good chance for the markets to develop further.
- We form a cohesive team, we try to master the situation through cooperation and flexible adaptation. I am grateful to fate that I can do this – said Zsuzsanna Kovács.
