Emmanuel Macron arrived Thursday June 16 in Ukraine with Olaf Scholz and Mario Draghi, representing the 3 founding countries of the European Union. A long-awaited trip, three months after the start of a conflict that is ravaging eastern Europe. The French president, the German chancellor and the Italian head of government Mario Draghi took the train together to go to kyiv on Wednesday evening, after leaving the Polish border. Before meeting Volodymyr Zelensky, Emmanuel Macron started by visiting the ruins of Irpin, just next to Boutcha. At the northwestern gates of kyiv, the city was the scene of fierce clashes between Russians and Ukrainians in the early days of the Russian invasion in late February. “We have all seen these images of a devastated city, which is both a heroic city since it is here, among other places, that the Ukrainians stopped the Russian army which was descending on kyiv. So you have to imagine the heroism of the army, but also of the Ukrainian population”said the head of state. “Ukraine must be able to resist and win”he also launched.
If Emmanuel Macron therefore made a symbolic visit before going to kyiv to meet Volodymyr Zelensky, Catherine Colonna, is she already present in the Ukrainian capital. Questioned as soon as she got off the train by a journalist from BFM TV, the Minister of Foreign Affairs expressed the full measure of this meeting between European leaders. “This is a very important day for Ukraine, for Europe, for the stability of the world.”, she said. But before that, the minister answered perhaps a little off the first question asked about the climate that reigned in the city. Launching it on political ground, the journalist from BFM TV had an unexpected response.”Beautiful, it’s beautiful.“, replied Catherine Colonna, pointing to the sky. A reaction which of course made many Internet users react: “it’s not possible to get so high you really have to clean up all this.”, “what a bunch of breles these macronards”, “This level of incompetence! From the comments of Tourist Guide, the Minister of Foreign Affairs is living her best life in Kyiv …“.
