The Drop of Military Weapons on the Taliban Embarrass the White House

Washington DC

Fighter videos Taliban carry out patrols with artificial armored vehicles United States of America (USA), while carrying US-supplied firearms and boarding a Black Hawk helicopter after the collapse of the government Afghanistan embarrassed the White House.

As reported AFP, Thursday (19/8/2021), the militant group that managed to take power in Kabul in a short time is reported to have controlled a large amount of weapons, military equipment and ammunition supplied by the US to Afghan security forces.

Images and videos circulating on social media show Taliban fighters carrying M4 and M18 assault rifles, as well as M24 sniper rifles, as they patrol the streets in US military Humvees. Another video shows them wearing US-style special forces tactical uniforms.

The photos that circulated helped amplify the political attack on the President Joe Biden which drew sharp criticism for the way it handled the withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan after a mission spanning the past 20 years.

Much of the military equipment was confiscated from Afghan forces, who, despite two decades of training and receiving supplies of equipment worth tens of billions of dollars, surrendered easily to the Taliban without any real resistance.

The fall of US military weapons and vehicles into the hands of the Taliban has been acknowledged by the White House.

“We don’t have a complete picture, clearly, of where the defense material is missing. But of course, a significant amount of it has fallen into the hands of the Taliban,” said White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan. “Obviously, we don’t feel they will be ready to hand it over to us.”
