The driver who fled from the police died in a drive-by in Ulvila on Thursday, the Southwest Finland Police Department informs.

On Thursday evening at half past eleven, the police received a report from the emergency center about a car drifting on Valtatie 2 in Kokemäki. The driver of the car had driven in the oncoming lane towards Pori and caused several near-miss situations.

The police first tried to stop the driver with stop lights in Nakkila.

However, the driver fled at a considerable speed. The speed limit in the area is 80 kilometers per hour, and the driver was driving around 160 kilometers per hour.

The driver did not stop at the police’s spiked carpet in Nakkila either, but continued his escape journey.

The driver was driving about 160 kilometers on the hourly mark when he lost control of his car in Ulvila at the Haistilanti intersection.

The car first hit the concrete fence on the right side of the road. After that, the car was thrown several tens of meters across the oncoming lanes and crashed into a street light.

The driver died at the scene. There were no others in the car.

The police are investigating the incident as a gross endangerment of traffic safety and investigating the cause of death.
