The accident happened on Saturday after six o’clock in the afternoon between the villages of Řásnice and Hliniště. It is a busy road near the border with Germany.
According to the police, the driver in the Opel Combo probably did not adjust his speed to his abilities and the condition of the road and drove in the opposite direction, where he collided head-on with a Mercedes Sprinter.
“Both drivers were injured in the vehicles when a man fell unconscious in Opel,” police spokesman Milan Bajcura explained the circumstances of the accident. A healthcare worker passed by, bringing the man back to alertness. Paramedics subsequently stabilized him and took him to the hospital.
Traffic on the road stopped completely after the accident, the police had to divert traffic to another road.
“An Opel driver is suspected of being addicted to the substance,” Bajcura added, adding that further tests have yet to confirm it.
