An 80-year-old female driver hit several children aged around ten on Saturday morning after losing control of her vehicle in Thônex. Six children were injured, two of them seriously. The driver, who was also seriously injured, died shortly afterwards.

The octogenarian succumbed to his injuries in hospital, the Geneva Public Prosecutor’s Office said on Saturday evening, confirming information from the Forum programme (RTS).
The octogenarian entered the Sous-Moulin sports centre by mistake when she wanted to access the P+R car park. She was driving quite fast, explained the Geneva public prosecutor’s office during a press briefing on site.
The children, aged around ten, were taking part in a basketball class and had left the gym to drink. Four of them were injured, two very seriously and the other two more lightly. An adult accompanying the children was also slightly injured.
Hospitalized at HUG
The alarm was raised at 10:19. Two police patrols arrived quickly on the scene and provided first aid to the injured. All the injured were taken to the Geneva University Hospitals (HUG).
A total of eight police vehicles, two ambulances, a Rega helicopter and six fire brigade vehicles were deployed.
