The individual, of Moroccan nationality, was arrested on the night between Tuesday and Wednesday in Grenoble after a chase linked to a refusal to obey during which he exchanged blows with the police. The 30-year-old was injured in the firefight and his passenger, a young 18-year-old woman, was killed. His autopsy was to be performed on Thursday morning.
Already known for shooting police officers
The prosecution also recalled that the custody of three police officers involved in the shooting had been lifted Wednesday evening without being prosecuted at this stage. The investigation by the Inspectorate General of the National Police (Igpn) “continues flagrantly,” he said.
According to a police source, the killer was already sentenced in 2012 to eight years in prison for shooting police officers near Avignon while he was wanted for robbery. He was also known at the time for drug trafficking, theft, concealment and gun offenses. Released from prison in 2020, he is subject to several judicial proceedings and the obligation to leave French territory (OQTF).
