The Dream Factory Returns: Highlights from the First Episode with Bart Peeters and Gloria Monserez

TV ‘The dream factory’ is back after a long absence. Bart Peeters was present again, this time with Gloria Monserez at his side. Together they made the dreams of many Flemish people come true. From an extra cute weather report to the toughest motorcycle gang: these are all the highlights from the first episode in a row.

Nette (10, Kalmthout) was allowed to present the weather report

Nette’s big dream is to become a weather forecaster and present the weather. Even before the first episode of ‘The dream factory begins’, that dream has already come true: Nette presented the weather together with Sabine Hagedoren, just before the episode started.

Elly (20 years old, Wevelgem) was allowed to design the ‘dream factory’ bears, just like her grandmother

The first dreamer we meet in the actual show is Elly. She is the granddaughter of Daisy Cools, who designed and produced the iconic ‘Droomfabriek’ bear with her company 30 years ago. “She was very proud of those bears, they stood on her table all her life, in a bowl,” says Elly. So many years later and just after the death of her ‘mamie’, she would like to design the new bears in her honor. Gloria takes her to a sewing workshop, where they shape the new bear. Elly’s ‘daddy’, Daisy’s husband, is extremely impressed. “This reminds me of Mommy,” he says with tears in his eyes.

Deaf Otto (12, Ghent) finally experiences a world in which everyone knows sign language

Otto is a cheerful, outgoing 12-year-old. He was born deaf, but that doesn’t stop him from talking wildly to every stranger he meets. Only: he doesn’t understand what those lovely people say back. His mother dreams out loud about her ideal world in which everyone speaks some sign language. “He has two hearing aids, but listening is really hard work for him,” his mother explains. “It is more pleasant for him if he can do it in sign language. Even if he thinks I’m sawing too much, he sometimes dares to turn off his equipment,” she laughs.

‘The dream factory’ gave him the day of his life last summer, with everyone he encountered speaking sign language to Otto. The young man was allowed to go to a match of his favorite football team, Club Brugge. He was picked up in a limo and met his favorite heroes on the field. Rik Verheye presented him with a club jersey on the spot, after which he was allowed to kick the ceremonial first ball. The entire crowd in the stadium chanted his name… in sign language!

Daniëlle (62 years old, Steenokkerzeel) discovers whether her skylight provides enough privacy

Daniëlle lives with her husband in Melsbroek, right next to the airport where the federal police helicopters take off. Every time she sits in her bath or dries herself under the skylight in the bathroom, she wonders whether those people in the helicopters don’t see her. The dream factory puts it to the test.

Daniëlle gets into a helicopter and is allowed to fly over her window. “It’s a good thing I checked,” she explains, when she sees Bart Peeters standing naked in her bathtub and waving through the skylight. “I see him waving from here!” But fortunately, when the window is closed, no one can see inside her. “It gives me peace of mind knowing that,” she says happily.

Freddy (70, Lokeren) gets a Van Gogh in his living room

Freddy is an amateur painter and admirer of the works of Vincent Van Gogh. His own house is chock full of his own painted works, but he dreams of being able to look at a real Van Gogh in his living room – if only for a few hours. And so it happened. Freddy received a real Van Gogh from ‘The Dream Factory’, borrowed from the KMSKA. About ten days before he was surprised, the museum’s art handler and Bart Peeters visited his home to check the house for all kinds of parameters, such as humidity. To be sure that the work could hang there. His daughter Cindy is involved in the plot and opens the door for the experts.

Freddy was very impressed with his painting. “That is the value of a castle that hangs against the wall here,” Bart knows. To which Freddy adds: “That is a piece of history in my living room.”

Not only is there a Van Gogh hanging at Freddy’s house. During the broadcast, the painter is also told that one of his own works has taken the place of that painting in the museum. “Wow, I’m shocked that all my family knew that and I didn’t,” he laughs.

Daphny makes a call for her mother An (41 years old, Wielsbeke)

The final dream of the episode is a call. Every Christmas, every birthday, An only asks one thing: to experience what it feels like to be part of a motorcycle gang. She does not want to sit on the motorcycle, but wants to experience a ride on the back and learn the customs and rituals. Her boyfriend once arranged a ride on a boring motorcycle, but it wasn’t the same. She wants to experience the group feeling. That is why her daughter, Daphny, asks for help from Maaike Cafmeyer, the ‘Chef Hoe Zit Het?’ and also the comic relief factor of the show. Maaike calls on all riders in Flanders to bring An from her home in Wielsbeke to live in our studio in Brussels next Saturday.

Motorcyclists can now register via VRT MAX. The tour will start with 20 riders, but who knows how many will end up at the VRT tower?

Technical problem

The show ends with a technical problem. The audience award that could normally be won by the viewer is not being sold. Due to a technical problem, Bart and Gloria are unable to contact the first caller, who had paid close attention throughout the episode to write down the passing numbers in clouds. “Then let’s have a plan B,” says Bart, clearly a quick thinker. “The person with the most brightly colored socks in the audience wins.” So it is that a young girl named Juno takes off on a helicopter flight, warmly recommended by Daniëlle from earlier in the show.

However, lucky caller Stefan did not miss out on his prize because he could not be heard in the episode. He will also receive a nice helicopter flight over his own house as a gift, the presenters say.
