The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Government Action Planning and Coordination, Guylain Nyembo, spoke at the opening of the Future collection in New York, on 22 September 2024, on behalf of the President of the Republic, Felix-Antoine Tshisekedi. This major event, organized by the United Nations Economic and Social Council, aims to accelerate the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030.
In his speech, Guylain Nyembo strongly pleaded for a a new global paradigmwith a focus on inclusion, climate justice and investment in human capital. He asked world leaders to ensure that the “Compact for the Future”, which will be adopted at the end of the Summit, does not remain an empty slogan. He emphasized the need to solve the main challenges that hinder development, especially in the least developed countries.
“The Agreement that we will accept at the end of this Conference will still be void if the relevant issues that hinder the proper functioning of our Organization. [ONU]but also the progress meeting within our individual States, especially those in the least developed countries, cannot find the resolution,” said the Deputy Prime Minister, in front of an audience made up of major directors.
This summit will take place in the context of the global climate crisis and growing economic challenges, where the DRC will try to establish itself as a key player in redefining global priorities. Guylain Nyembo highlighted the importance of a collective commitment to building a future where there is climate justice and equality of opportunity for developing countries is at the heart of the matter.
