The Polestar 2, a five-door fastback from Polestar, a Swedish brand of premium performance electric vehicles, ranked first in sales of a single EV model last year, according to Korea Automobile Importers tally & Distributors Association (excluding Tesla).

According to the Korea Imported Automobile Association on the 5th, imported electric cars sold last year totaled 23,202 units, an increase of 266% from the previous year (2021) of 6340 units. Among them, Polestar 2 sold 2,794 units, ranking first in sales as a single imported electric vehicle.

Polestar 2 features excellent marketability, such as an understated and luxurious design with a unique Scandinavian theme and TMAP infotainment, which was applied for the first time in an electric car.

According to a Polestar survey of home buyers, 29% of respondents cited ‘design’ as the reason for their buying decision. Safety (22%), marketability (16%) and convenience (15%) were followed in order.

In particular, Polestar 2 first supplied a large number of items to Korea, where the electric vehicle market is growing rapidly, and drastically shortened the delivery period to 3-4 months, when domestic and overseas automakers were suffering from waited for delivery for more than a year due to a shortage of semiconductor parts last year estimated for a reason.

Jong-seong Ham, CEO of Polestar Korea, said, “Achieving the top spot in sales of a single EV model in the first year of its launch is invaluable, but I’m very proud that Polestar 2 is leading the change in the rapid transition to a sustainable era,” he said.

However, since this survey was conducted for companies that are members of the Korea Imported Automobile Association, Tesla, which is not a member company, was excluded. Tesla sold 14,000 units in Korea last year.
