Employees in the new capital city of Indonesia, IKN Nusantara, have reportedly not been paid for months, which has raised concern from the House of Representatives. According to Guspardi Gaus, a member of the House’s Commission II, the lack of a Presidential Regulation on the matter is believed to be the cause of the issue. Gaus believes President Jokowi should issue the regulation as soon as possible. He also argued that a Perpres can easily be made in an hour. However, there has been a delay in issuing the announcement, and Gaus believes it should not be used as an excuse for the late payment of employee wages. He highlighted a quote from the hadith of the Prophet Muhammad SAW that states, “Workers’ dues should be given before their sweat dries up.” While Gaus admits he does not know the number of employees affected or the amounts owed them, he does believe that the lack of payment needs to be addressed as soon as possible.
The DPR questions delays in paying salaries to employees in IKN Nusantara and urges President Jokowi to issue a presidential regulation.
