The anniversary event was held in the theater of the Worker’s Cultural Center on the afternoon of March 7. The celebrants were greeted by Mrs. József Gyenes, the president of the housing cooperative, who has held this position for nine years now.
As he recalled in his speech, the first housing cooperative in Dunaújváros was founded on October 20, 1961 (the editor-in-chief of our paper was also born on this exact day – ed.), which was named Gagarin. The Batsányi Housing Maintenance Cooperative was established on March 3, 1964, and the Dózsa Housing Maintenance Cooperative began operating on November 5 of the same year.
The Dunaújvárosi Hírlap of the time published a short piece of news about this, according to which the third housing cooperative of the city was founded, and 163 founding members took part in the general meeting held in the Vasmű cultural hall. At the time, the apartments were a row of buildings, even in this issue it was noted that the technical handover of 41 apartments on Dózsa György út was taking place, and 82 apartments were completed in the Castrum district (Római district), into which the residents could move in two weeks later.
Over time, new cooperatives were formed, Duna and Weiner. Then, on January 1, 1977, Dózsa and Batsányi joined the association, and in January 1980, Duna and Weiner joined them. Today, the Dózsa Housing Maintenance Cooperative operates with 93 management units, which include 3,535 apartments. The relationship between the cooperative and the management units is handled by 57 delegates.
Mrs. József Gyenes emphasized that over the years the cooperative has not only created a series of residences, but a living community where generations have grown up and shared the most important moments of their lives. As the world changes, so does the cooperative constantly develop in order to meet the expectations and needs of the times. New technologies, sustainability efforts and new forms of community life are waiting to be incorporated into their daily lives. The president also spoke about the fact that the management units, that is, the condominiums, are constantly striving for renovations, conservation, and modernization. Many buildings have undergone energetic renovation, facade insulation, roof insulation, heating modernization, window replacement. In several places, the renovation of the elevator, the renovation of the electric network, the replacement of the downpipe and the main line, moreover, the mailboxes and intercoms have already been replaced in some stairwells, and a camera system has been installed. Altogether, all of these represent several billion forints worth of development.
Mrs. József Gyenes emphasized that this required the leadership skills of the delegates and joint representatives, so that they could set their own community on the path of development. Their task is not easy, a lot depends on their endurance, patience, and willingness to help, since the residents’ perception of life and attitude are also diverse. He thanked them, the employees of the cooperative, and their entrepreneurs, who also supported the realization of the jubilee celebration.
