The new relationship of the Istituto Superiore Sanità entitled “Water and health: elements of risk analysis in new environmental and climatic scenarios” presents a composite review of emerging issues on the complex interactions between climate-environment-water and health. The aim is to offer knowledge and propose actions regarding the prevention and management of risks related to human pressures on natural systems and the use of resources, which are compromising universal access to water and sanitation and, consequently, many others sustainable development goals of the UN 2030 agenda.
The volume is an advanced example of stable multi-institutional and multi-disciplinary cooperation that lays the foundations for the progress of a key strategy at the country level to strengthen the involvement of all sectors in the field of water and sanitation in the achievement of objectives national priorities. These include the need to strengthen the protection of the water cycle and the quality of water resources in natural environments, guarantee universal and equal access to adequate quantities of drinking water and safe sanitation, support a communication anchored to the scientific, balanced and shared knowledge of water quality for people and communities.
The sections are divided into:
1. Culture of water, culture of health;
2. Emerging aspects in water intended for human consumption and in the reuse of water;
3. Safety of hydro-potable distribution networks;
4. Research and control strategies in the water sector;
5. The future of water between environment, climate and health.
