The painting had a complicated history.
In the era of the USSR, many films lay “on the shelf”, and their existence was learned only decades later. Among these films is the film “Mistakes of Youth”, filmed by Boris Frumin.
The main role in the film was played by Stanislav Zhdanko, for whom this work was the last. The actor showed great promise, but fate measured him a short time – he died at 24. Zhdanko’s death was blamed on his common-law wife, Valentina Malyavina. By the way, she can be seen in Frumin’s film a couple of times, or rather her photo. Many regarded this as an anti-sign of quality, because the appearance of the actress on the screen did not bode well.
The painting “Mistakes of Youth” was doomed to a difficult fate. During filming, scriptwriter and writer Eduard Topol was about to emigrate from the USSR. And this immediately reduced the chances of the film being released. The director also showed army hazing in his work, which was an unheard of act at that time.
As a result, the film lay on the shelf. He was remembered only ten years later in the late 80s, when the creators received maximum freedom. But the picture did not make an impression – it could not stand the competition with bright and outrageous tapes.
The reason for the failure was an unsuccessful casting. Here is the feedback from a viewer:
“The incomprehensible Zhdanko takes the girl away from Karachentsov himself. And Varley and Neelova also had to change places. The bright beauty Varley is a kind waitress. And the nondescript, albeit charming, Neelova is a dramatic heroine.
