The Dominican Republic nullifies “all” restrictions due to “success” in vaccination against COVID-19

Santo Domingo Dominican Republic announced this Wednesday that it annuls “all” the restriction measures imposed due to the pandemicsuch as the use of masks in public spaces and in private spaces for public use, due to the “success” of its vaccination program, which has been running for one year.

“The country deserves and needs an emotional recovery and to leave behind the measures that we had to impose for a time that is already past”affirmed in a speech the Dominican president, Louis Abinader.

“Measures such as the use of the mask, the need to present the vaccination card to access all places, or the restrictions in public spaces, today, are the individual responsibility of each and every one of us. After this long battle, we are starting to regain our freedom”, stated the ruler.

Abinader assured that the country has overcome “the worst of the pandemic” and that daily infections and those of the last four weeks are in clear decline.

“We have one of the lowest mortality rates in the world and very low hospital occupancy”the head of state pointed out, on the day the country registered 400 cases of covid-19 and two new deaths from the disease.

In the nation, 4,351 people have died from the pandemic since March 2020 and in recent weeks new infections have been declining.

The president described the first year of execution of the National Vaccination Plan as “a great collective victory” and assured, in this sense, that Dominicans “were an example to the world.”

Abinader, however, gave assurances that the Government will continue to “voluntarily” invite the population to get vaccinated and will continue to guarantee full access to the vaccine for everyone and in any circumstance.

“The country can also be sure that, unlike in the past, our health system is today prepared to deal with any eventuality”he added.

Abinader gave the credit to his Government because he opted to contract the greatest variety of vaccines.

“We applied innovative treatments and were among the first in the world to propose a third dose, despite the little faith of a few”he added.

He thanked the health personnel, the military and police, the businessmen who provided economic resources “for the cause”, but above all, he said he thanked the “millions of Dominicans” who complied with the (preventive) measures and went to get vaccinated .

“It is time to recover our freedom, our way of life, once and for all. We’re free”finished the president.

The Dominican Republic has gone through five waves since the start of the pandemic in March 2020.
