Dogs that are not on a leash are actually not particularly welcome on trains and buses – but there is one exception in Istanbul: Street dog Boji has discovered public transport for himself and drives with them through the metropolis every day. People have meanwhile got used to the unusual passenger and the city is now also interested in him.
Dog Boji drives through Istanbul
The dog Boji has recently become known in the Turkish city on the Bosporus. Anyone who uses public transport has probably seen their four-legged friend many times – because Boji loves buses, trams and even the city’s ferries. The street dog is on the road all day, jumps from one lane to the next and apparently knows his way around very well, reports for example “CNN“.
Regardless of which station he walks into, Boji always knows exactly where to find the platform, how to get on the trains and where to get off again. In the vehicles themselves, by the way, he is absolutely peaceful. Most of the time he lies flat on the ground, enjoys the ride and lets the animal-loving residents take a photo and stroke him.
The city takes care of him
As Boji became a little celebrity over time, those in charge of the city became aware of him and began to take care of him. A few weeks ago they took him to a veterinary clinic and had a thorough check-up. The result: the stray dog is very healthy. But he still got a few vaccinations and extensive grooming.
In order to be able to follow the street dog, a GPS transmitter was attached to it, which now regularly sends the dog’s location. Soon posters will also be hung in the means of transport, on which the passengers will be informed about Boji and how to deal with him. The stray apparently doesn’t seem to mind all the attention – on the contrary: He enjoys the increasingly frequent pats and the extra food that he gets everywhere.
