As one of the world’s most recognized icons of pop culture, Michael Jackson meant a lot to countless people – a pop star, a philanthropist, a beloved idol. When allegations of Jackson’s unauthorized sexual activity with young boys first appeared in public in 1993, many could not believe that the king of pop music was to blame for such crimes.
In the documentary “Leaving Nowhere” produced by HBO and Channel 4, the two boys make friends with Jackson in two separate but parallel stories that complement each other. Fascinated by the singer’s world of fairy tales and self-conscious flattering relationships, members of the families of both children become blind to the manipulations and transactions faced by their sons.

Film director Dan Reed says: “If there is anything we have learned from this time in our history, then the fact that sexual violence is complicated and we have to listen to what the survivors have to say. It took a lot of courage for both men to tell the world their stories, and I have no doubt about their credibility. I believe that after watching the film, everyone will feel the emotional pressure that these men and their families had to endure, as well as appreciate the strength it took to face the long-kept secrets. ”
Interviews with James Seifchak, now 37, and Way Robson, now 41, and their parents, wives, brothers, and sisters in “Leaving Nowhere,” reveal the ugly image of prolonged violence, as well as the strong emotions that led both men to discover his negative experience with the king of pop music after the two became sons of fathers.
They both met Jackson at a very young age. Eight-year-old Seifchak starred in a 1986 Pepsi commercial with a musician, while five-year-old Robson met the famous artist after winning a dance competition in Australia in 1987, and three years later his family was invited to visit Jackson’s home for the weekend.
Michael Jackson became involved in the daily lives of both families, becoming friends, mentors and confidants, showing love for both children while isolating them from their families. The film reveals how the friendly relationship gradually grew into hidden intimate contacts, and how the great musician gradually lost interest in them as the boys grew up.
