With the onset of cold weather, cardiovascular, respiratory diseases and mental disorders often worsen. Cardiologist Irina Permikina told how to control these ailments, reports RT.
“Up to 70% of the population is sensitive to seasonal changes. For example, many patients with hypertension – high blood pressure – have to adjust their treatment regimen when the air temperature changes. It is important to regularly measure blood pressure, regardless of how you feel, in order to detect its fluctuations in time and take action,” Permikina noted.
Additionally, fall and winter are traditionally considered cold and flu seasons. The doctor called for vaccination against coronavirus and influenza to avoid complications such as the development of cardiovascular pathologies.
The doctor also mentioned seasonal depression, or “seasonal affective disorder,” as another cause of worsening chronic illnesses.
“If you notice that your emotional state has worsened, contact a psychologist to draw up an action plan,” the doctor concluded.
