Today, several news about the state of Roman Kostomarov appeared in the press. The skater was hospitalized with pneumonia after the New Year holidays. The disease provoked many complications, including amputation and stroke. Professor of Medical Sciences Pavel Vorobyov suggested that it caused the brain hemorrhage in the skater.

According to the doctor, pneumonia provoked sepsis, which, in turn, triggered the process of gangrene. Blood poisoning eventually led to thrombohemorrhagic syndrome. It is characterized by damage to small vessels and the formation of blood clots, which quickly lead to a stroke.

Vorobyov noted that thrombohemorrhagic syndrome is treatable. It is enough to choose the right therapy. “I don’t know how Roman Kostomarov was treated, but one can only hope that the figure skater’s body will cope with the new test,” the professor of medical sciences concluded in an interview with “KP Sport”.

Note that a few hours ago, Tatyana Navka turned to a colleague. On her personal blog, she shared an archived video from the 2006 Olympics. Then the athlete paired with Kostomarov, they put on an arbitrary number. “Perhaps I will leave this dance without comment, because I believe that our fans and lovers of figure skating will say better and more! This dance is different for everyone, but for me it’s my whole life!!! Roma, I pray for you and I believe that all caring people do too, ”said the skater.

It is worth saying that there are many rumors about the development of Kostomarov’s disease. Some sources claim that the athlete ignored the symptoms of the disease for a long time and delayed going to the doctor. Roman’s wife Oksana Domnina previously denied these speculations. According to her, her husband had a cough, to which no one attached much importance. Athletes are accustomed to working with manifestations of a cold, immunity rarely let them down.

Honored coach of Russia Tatyana Tarasova also recalled that she had seen Kostomarov a few days before hospitalization. He performed in Ilya Averbukh’s ice show “The Wizard of Oz”. According to Tarasova, she did not notice any manifestations of a serious illness in the athlete. Like Domnina, she noted only a slight cough.

Recall that a few days ago, the chief doctor of Kommunarka spoke about the state of health of the skater Denys Protsenko. He noted that Roman came to them in a serious condition. All tests indicated that he had no chance of surviving. Doctors knew that the treatment could lead to the loss of limbs, but this was the only option to save Kostomarov’s life.

Protsenko also added that the causative agent of the athlete’s illness was a bacterial and viral infection. Roman arrived with a high fever that lasted for several days. Now the skater is in a medically induced coma, his breathing is supported by a ventilator. Doctors assess his condition as extremely serious.
