Prosper Morey also sends his plans for the contest, but requests that his file be withdrawn, wishing to make only one contribution.
But, against his will and without notifying the other members of the jury, the mayor of Nancy, Baron Buquet, sends these plans to the Council in charge of validations. One of the clauses of the regulation, stipulating that “the town hall expressly reserves the right to have the project that it has adopted by the architect of its choice”, allows Morey to have his project selected.
Léopold Gigout won the competition, a gold medal and a scholarship. In 1891, he wrote “The truth about the reconstruction of the Saint-Epvre church”, in which he recounts the unofficial progress of the competition.
