After being administratively relegated to the national team (as well as sporting relegation to Ligue 2), the Girondins had to appeal to the French Olympic Committee (CNOSF) and then to the Appeals Committee of the French Football Federation to be reinstated in L2, at the price of a debt reduction agreement with the American funds King Street and Fortress. The FFF had accepted it on the condition of close monitoring of the club’s finances, quarter by quarter.
This Friday’s decision by the DNCG confirms that the financial “trajectory” for the current season is respected.
“The Consolidated Project”
The club issued a press release at the end of the day: “The DNCG professional clubs scrutiny committee has decided not to take any action against FC Girondins de Bordeaux for its mid-season review. The club is delighted with this decision, which confirms the positive trajectory of restructuring and recovery undertaken last summer. It also reinforces the project carried forward, since the acquisition of the club, by its shareholder and its management, committed to continue to strengthen the economic stability of the club in the service of its long-term sporting ambition.
A source close to the Girondins adds: “Obviously it’s good news but it doesn’t mean that the restructuring of the club is over. We impose sound management, focused on the long term, and we will continue in this direction. The decision by the DNCG to lift the measures is a good sign, but it will not affect the seriousness the club takes on its management, it is about the club’s ability to recover and perform in the long term.”
