The DJ association with the elegant name “Skrapneshi”, which includes DJs Monsta and PM2THEAM, has released a turntablism-style piece “Paths to Plates”.
“Turntablism is centered on a wide-ranging player as a musical instrument,” says PM2THEAM. in fact, there is nothing new, only less understood and heard. “
The song “Roads to Plates” is the first performance of “scrapers”. It contains fragments from both Latvian hip-hop and old training plates, as well as self-created samples. “Following the traditional path of hip-hop culture, we wanted to create a piece about our daily work, which we invest in learning our instrument – a wide range of players. Because there are so many techniques and you have to be able to perform them accurately, it takes time and self-discipline, but, as you can hear in the song itself, we never get tired of this process.
If you are about both DJs, then DJ Monsta (Uldis Cīrulis) is one of the most experienced Latvian DJs / producers. He has participated in many musical projects – in the genre of pop, jazz and classical music, as well as folk music. DJ PM2THEAM has been playing in the biggest clubs and festivals in Latvia and neighboring countries since 2009. Running enthusiast and creator of the platform “Turntablist Latvia”. He regularly collaborates with local hip-hop artists and is part of the Jazzatomy project.
