“The name of jean paul Gaultier had divine accents!”, enthuses Sandra Choi, creative director of Jimmy Choo, about the visionary Parisian couturier when she was studying fashion in London. “He was as timeless as he was daring in his treatment of identity and emancipation.”
We must therefore consider as an almost divine intervention the collaboration between the British shoe brand and the enfant terrible of French fashion, to create a collection of shoes which combines the codes of the two houses. We therefore find a profusion of tattoos, plexiglass and printed denim, in a collection whose muse is none other than the eternal princess of pop, Kylie Minogue.
“It was the perfect time to talk about icons”
Pour Florence Tétierartistic director at jean paul Gaultierappointed in 2021 to this position (which gives her the “duty to keep the legacy of jean paul Gaultier”), the inspiration came from searching for the perfect pair of shoes to complement the designer’s iconic silhouette. “It was about bringing the finishing touches to the woman jean paul Gaultier”, she explains. In September, the house unveiled a collaboration with KNWLS (perfect for It-girls as Bella Hadid, Rosalía et Kylie Jennerwho love both brands), in addition to the haute couture collections with Sacai et Y/Project. The one for Simone Rocha is currently being prepared. “It was the perfect time to talk about icons,” adds Florence Tétier.
