The diversity course at the theater provokes criticism

Switzerland’s premier theater is fully committed to diversity – and is thus sparking a debate.

The city of Zurich supports the theater with around 38 million Swiss francs every year.

Spectators flee from Zurich’s Schauspielhaus: only 72 percent of all season tickets have been renewed for the current season, as recently reported by “NZZ am Sonntag”. From 2013 to 2019, this rate was over 95%. Where does this decline come from? One possible explanation is Corona, but other institutions such as the opera house or Bern theaters continue to have good numbers even after the pandemic, as research shows.
