The district court thought it was an execution

– In the court’s view, the murder had the character of pure execution. It was a planned confrontation with firearms, the Oslo District Court wrote in the verdict after the Prinsdal murder in August last year.

Three young men were convicted of murder or complicity in murder after Halil Kara (21) was shot in the head outside Prinsdal Grill south of Oslo on January 10, 2020. In addition, a fourth was convicted of subsequent assistance by driving the principal across the border and on to Gothenburg.

Two men, now 22 and 23 years old, received the most severe sentences.

The 22-year-old admitted that he shot Kara and was sentenced to 13 years in prison for murder and grievous bodily harm. The 23-year-old was sentenced to 11 years in prison for complicity in murder by delivering the weapon used, and for carrying a weapon in a public place twice.

Both appealed the verdict, and on Wednesday the trial will start in Borgarting Court of Appeal.

– The verdict is very deficient and contains incorrect information. It is disturbing to see that the court has not entered into a real assessment of evidence. Central evidence is not mentioned in the verdict, and the factors that are highlighted are deficient, the 22-year-old’s defender, lawyer Morten Furuholmen, told NTB after the district court verdict.

The 23-year-old’s defense counsel, lawyer Øyvind Bratlien, was also strongly critical of the court’s assessment of the evidence which he thought was deficient.

– The sentence is three years below the plaintiff’s claim for my client. He does not plead guilty to complicity in murder. The court uses three sentences to send him to eleven years in prison. There is no real discussion of the evidence in the case, Bratlien told TV 2.

Ten court days have been set aside for consideration in the Court of Appeal.
