The distribution should be called Fedora Linux, suggests Matthew Miller

Author: Fedora Project

Matthew Miller, Fedora Project Manager, proposes to change the name Linux distributions on Fedora Linux. The one-word name Fedora should remain the name of the project itself, the community. It also develops other things, not only the Linux distribution itself. For example, the Extra Packages for Enterprise Linux (EPEL) repository or infrastructure tools used outside the original project.

Miller has also asked the editors of Fedora Magazine to use the name Fedora Linux in future. For the next release of Fedora, too suggested an adjustment file /etc/os-releasein which the item NAME should be set to "Fedora Linux".

The change should not affect the different editions, which will still be called Fedora Workstation, Fedora Server, Fedora IoT, and so on. The short release label will remain the same, so Fedora Linux 35 will be F35 for short.
