The Dissolution of Nagorno-Karabakh Republic on January 1st: Details and Background

In Nagorno-Karabakh, the unrecognized republic ceased to exist on January 1.

Details: Shahramanyan ordered the dissolution of all state institutions and organizations under their departmental subordination until January 1, 2024.

The population of Karabakh, including those who are outside the republic, after the entry into force of this decree, is recommended to familiarize themselves with the conditions of reintegration presented by Azerbaijan, with a view to making an independent and individual decision in the future on the possibility of staying in Nagorno-Karabakh.”

The decree states that it comes into force immediately after publication.

Background:

On September 20, after a day of fighting, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Defense announced that an agreement had been reached to suspend hostilities in Nagorno-Karabakh. Subsequently, the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev announced the restoration of sovereignty countries.

On September 21, negotiations were held between Azerbaijan and representatives of Nagorno-Karabakh to further resolve the situation. Azerbaijan promised to provide a way out from Karabakh to the Armenians who will lay down their arms.
