The dissolution of Génération Identitaire is finally pronounced!
In a letter dated February 11, the Minister of the Interior had notified the president of Génération Identitaire of the Government’s desire to initiate the dissolution of the association on the basis of 2 ° and 6 ° of article L. 212-1 of the Internal Security Code, which makes it possible to dissolve “de facto associations or groups (…) which, by their military form and organization, have the character of combat groups or private militias”; “Or which cause discrimination, hatred or violence against a person or a group of persons because of their origin, their belonging or not belonging to an ethnic group, a nation, a race or a religion”.
The commission of inquiry relating to the fight against extreme right-wing groups that I chaired in 2019, demonstrated the dangerousness of the ultra-right and the need to fight it with determination. Génération Identitaire is an Islamophobic, white nationalist and neofascist movement, several members of which have been convicted of acts of racism, incitement to racial hatred and violence.
The nauseating ideas of the ultra right are spreading dangerously within the population and threaten our institutions, our humanist values and our Republic. And since it must be remembered endlessly: racism, anti-Semitism, homophobia and sexism are not opinions, but many crimes!
Far from tackling social and fiscal injustice, the ultra right and the far right mask the social issue and feed on misery to stir up fear and hatred of others; sometimes alas, comforted by those who think they can use and control them.
I welcome the decision of the Council of Ministers which today pronounced the dissolution of Génération Identitaire. It is a victory, but the fight against the ultra-right groups does not stop there.
