Zlatý kůň – the golden horse. That’s what Czech scientists called the approximately 45,000-year-old skeleton of a woman they found in 1950 in a cave deep in the hill of the same name.
Although she is nowhere near the oldest known Homo sapiens, Zlatý kůň does hold a record: she is the oldest person from whom enough DNA could be extracted for analysis.
Until now, experts had no idea what the woman, who lived in what is now the Czech Republic, looked like.
