The second round of “Latvia’s discoverer” – the adventure category – was inspired by the modern adventurer Bērs Grills, who in the “National Geographic” program “Running wild with Bērs Grills” challenges celebrities – movie stars, show business luminaries and even the former president of the USA – to get out of their comfort zones and test your abilities in various tests in the open air.
In this category, five bright Latvian personalities fought for the victory – adventurous musician, TV personality, and passionate nature walker Gustavs Terzens, journalist with a geographer’s diploma Dzintris Kolāts, hiking enthusiast Linda Logina-Krūze, “outdoor” instructor Agnese Zeltiņa and discoverer of Latvian stories and people Māras Sleja .
Throughout the week, readers had the opportunity to vote for their favorite. In total, 3,634 votes were cast for all participants, of which 1,311 were for Gustavus.
By winning the vote, Gustav will have the opportunity to go on a special adventure – face a challenge in nature, get to know a place, event, personality or implement a long cherished idea. From March 7, we will present the adventures of him and other Latvian discoverers in video format for audience evaluation.
Readers also had the opportunity to submit their applicants for the title of “Discoverer of Latvia”. Among the most frequently submitted names were the experienced river expedition leader Raimonds Dombrovskis, adventure seeker Jānis Ogle, self-growth coach and organizer of adventure and endurance events Roberts Līcis, naturalist, host of the program “Uz meža takas” Jānis Kļaviņš, team building and development coach Māris Resnis and others , but no number of applications managed to reach 15% of the total number of votes in that particular round of voting, which would allow them to join the vote.
Voters of “Latvijas objekteijs” also compete for prizes, and after this round Uldis Gaiss (uld********@gmail.com) receives a comfortable and modern travel bag with “National Geographic” and “Delfi” souvenirs. We will contact the winner personally about receiving the prize.
What will happen next?
In the continuation of the project, from February 7 to 13, all interested parties are invited to vote for their favorite in the third round of the project “Discoverer of Latvia”. Its inspiration is the charming historian Bethany Hughes, whose fascinating stories about ancient civilizations and the treasures of Ancient Egypt can be appreciated in the programs “Treasures with Bethany Hughes” and “The Most Valuable Treasures of the Ancient World”.
For the third round of voting, we have selected five bright local personalities – history connoisseurs who cannot imagine their everyday life without the presence of the breath of antiquity. These five aspirants are Andrejs Gusachenko, whose research interests focus on the little-studied Russian anti-Bolshevik movement in Latvia in the interwar period, Inna Gīle, the first historian who has devoted herself to the study of Latvian military medical history, Kārlis Sils, who is particularly interested in the history of Latvia and Riga between 1860 .and 1940s, activist of the “Rodenpoys” medieval history reconstruction club, Uģis Urtāns, as well as researcher of the Department of Ethnography of the Latvian National History Museum and leading researcher of the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Latvia, Astra Spalvēna.
It has already been announced that the inspiration of the project “Discoverer of Latvia” are the presenters of various “National Geographic” television programs – people whose experience, curiosity and spirit of adventure open the world wider. Voting takes place in six rounds, searching for the “Explorer of Latvia” in six different categories – cooking, adventure, history, journalism, survival and science.
Concept chef Renārs Purmalis won the first vote in the cooking category.
“Delfi” readers are invited to follow the vote, choose their favorite and participate in the contest – after each round of voting, we will choose one lucky person in the draw, who will win a suitcase with “National Geographic” and “Delfi” souvenirs, while all registered voters will participate in the draw for the main prize at the end of the vote “iPhone 14” award. Six world-renowned discoverers, 30 of our heroes – vote every week and receive valuable prizes!
