An outstanding scientist, Nobel laureate and discoverer of the HIV virus – virologist Prof. Luc Montagnier passed away today dir.bg, quoting the French edition of FranceSoir.

He retired at the age of 89 to the American hospital in Neuilly-sur-Seine. Dr. Gerard Guillaume, one of his most loyal employees, told the publication that Prof. Montagnier “left in peace surrounded by his children.”
Luc Montagnier was a biologist and virologist, but above all a man of remarkable intelligence who lived for science. In addition, he was nominated for the Nobel Prize in Medicine in 2008. To detect the AIDS virus, he worked with the largest scientific institutions in the world -Honorary Director of Research at CNRS, professor at the Pasteur Institute, director of the Center for Molecular and Cellular Biology at Queens College of the City University of New York, director of the Research Institute at Jiao Tong University in Shanghai.

Professor. Montagnier supported the Academy of Sciences as well as the National Academy of Medicine through his research for many years. For this, he received countless awards and recognitions, writes the French edition.

Professor. Montani testified before a Libyan court in defense of Bulgarian doctors convicted by the regime of Muammar Gaddafi for infecting 400 children with AIDS. According to him, the infection in the Benghazi Children’s Hospital spread before Bulgarian doctors started working there and
it continued even after their detention.
