“The Disappearing Dunes of Kavatsite Beach: Uncovering the Truth”

Dozens of acres of dunes near Kavatsite beach in Sozopol are covered with soil and construction debris. This established a bTV check.

At the same time, three surveys of the protected habitats were carried out in two years, and in the last one most of the dunes “disappeared”.

When he bought a property in Kavatsi more than 20 years ago, everything around was dunes, Vlado Stoyanov recalls. Now they don’t see each other.

“They level them and fill them with chernozem, to make it appear that the land is not dunes, but agricultural land,” he explained.

There is no result from his signals. The last one submitted about 2 years ago. At that time, the Ministry of Eco-Ministry commissioned the Agency for Geodesy, Cartography and Cadastre to prepare a specialized map of the dunes outside the beaches of “Kavatsi – North and South”, which did not exist until now. The dunes were filmed in November. And a second time in June.

“The results of the two shoots are infinitely different. The difference is more than 40 times in the area,” explained the Deputy Minister of Environment and Water Maria Boyadzhiyska.

A third study follows. According to the former Deputy Minister of Ecology Toma Belev, a large part of the dunes have been obliterated.

“Since the last shot, I think about 90% of the dunes at the Kavacite campsite have been dumped. It’s just that they are not defined as dunes, and we can already see that their development is being permitted,” Belev pointed out.

The eco-ministry explained that their representative in the commission for the adoption of the specialized dune map at the Cadastre Agency expressed a particular opinion.

Only a specialist geomorphologist can detect the dunes under the buried construction waste.

Meanwhile, the eco-ministry and the regional administration in Burgas explained that they are launching a new, fourth study of the dunes.
