The Minister of Defense in China, Li Shangfu, has been deposed, reports Reuters.
Shangfu has not been seen in public since August 29. The disappearance has caused concern among experts.
According to the South China Morning Post, it is unknown why Shangfu has been deposed.
The announcement came just days before a Pentagon delegation is due to visit Beijing for a security forum.
In September, the Financial Times quoted unnamed American sources as saying that Li had been stripped of his duties and was under investigation, according to NTB.
Shangfu disappeared shortly after China’s former foreign minister, Qin Gang, also disappeared. He was deposed in July after disappearing from public view for a month.
