Broňek Černý is remembered by the audience as Venka Konopník from the cult comedy Sun, hay directed by Zdenek Troška. He disappeared from television screens shortly after the start of the new millennium. What does he do for a living now and why does he no longer want anything to do with the popular trilogy?
Broněk Černý, originally from Strakonice, was born on March 12, 1961. Information about his childhood is relatively limited, as he entered the world of show business purely by chance. His artistic breakthrough came in 1983, when he succeeded in an audition, which he came to see just out of curiosity. This audition led him to the main role in the film Sun, Hay, Strawberries – the first part of Troška’s trilogy. In this film, Černý turned into the well-known Venac Konopník, a role he liked and repeated in the next two sequels: Sun, hay and a pair of faces and Sun, hay, erotica.
Broněk Černý became a popular actor and appeared in other successful films. In the 1980s, he played, for example, in the drama Girl on the Short Track (1984) and the comedy Mule (1985). He also appeared in the fairy tale Herb Princess (1990). His acting career was decorated by various genres, but he finally closed it with the comedy film Kamenák by Zdeňka Troška from 2003, where he starred alongside Václav Vydra and Jana Paulová.
Subsequently, he also performed on stage, where he was greatly supported by Helena Růžičková, with whom he performed. For a while he toyed with the idea of a professional acting career, but eventually he was lured by the work of a truck driver. Soon after, he got married and settled in his native Strakonice. He became the father of two children. You wouldn’t recognize the attractive eighties idol in him today.
Even though the movie Venca disappeared from the TV screens a long time ago, he still doesn’t get a break from journalists from time to time even now. On the anniversaries of Sun, Hay, the media rush him and want to hear how he remembers the filming. Broněk Černý does not like to answer questions, which is why one of the interviews did not go well for journalists. “I certainly won’t answer anything, I’m done with that a long time ago. Kick whoever gave you my number, and let the journalists leave me alone forever. Have a nice day,” he said in a phone call to eXtra.cz.
Despite his distaste for questions about the successful trilogy, he came to celebrate Zdenek Troška’s 70th birthday with his fellow actors. In the Tobogan show, he talked about the experiences of filming, for example, about a later incident from Croatia that left a mark on him. It was there that he discovered that a motorcycle was named after him – Konopnice, which the president currently rides. The actor also recalled the monocle he had from the iconic battle in the second part.
The comedy Sun, Hay, Strawberries will be shown by Prima TV on the evening of Tuesday, July 4, and by Prima Max a day later at 3:50 p.m. Sun, hay and a few slaps will introduce the following week.
