Doctor Claire Bird, an environmental microbiology specialist at the Healthy Hotels Program, said measuring the levels of biological residue in hotel remotes convinced her that remotes in hotel rooms were not being cleaned properly, and that it was likely a guest would have contracted an infection from a previous sick visitor.
“If they have a stomach ache and don’t wash their hands, or they have a cold or flu and pick up the remote after blowing their nose a few times, the viruses on the remote can infect you when you turn on the television there,” he said as quoted by the News. com.au.
