The anxiety of our farmers is groundless. This is what the director of the National Revenue Agency (NRA) Rumen Spetsov said in the program “120 Minutes” on the occasion of the upcoming protests of the grain producers.
“I can tell the exact amounts. For the entire sector, this is over BGN 1.8 billion for legal entities and over BGN 600 million for sole traders and individuals. This is the profit”, he clarified in response to the question whether he confirms the Prime Minister’s words that last year the grain producers reported 25% more profit compared to 2021.
He also noted that the lifting of the ban on the import of Ukrainian grain is related to the requirement by the EU for the introduction of a regulatory regime in this direction by Ukraine. According to him, this is something that is not talked about.
“From Monday, this regulatory regime for the export of certain goods from Ukraine comes into effect, which means that there will be no free and uncontrolled export of goods. This control will be carried out by Ukraine, but there will probably also be mechanisms for verification by the EU. We are going to see that on Monday,” he clarified.
Rumen Spetsov commented on how the import of products from Ukraine will affect the prices. “The prices of these goods are determined by stock market indices. What our producers probably fear is that products with very low prices and cheap raw materials will come to Bulgaria. But for these products to reach Bulgaria from Ukraine, there are transport costs. So at this stage, no one knows at what price the raw materials will be delivered,” he specified.
The Director of the NRA admitted that there is excess profit in the Agriculture sector. They are from last year and were generated in a different environment, he stressed, however.
