Raja Gosnell has signed on to direct The Smurfs, a combination of animation and acting.
The screenplay will be written by David Stem and David Weiss (“Shrek 2” and “Shrek III”) and Audrey Wells (“George of the Jungle”). Director Raja Gosnell is known for his work on the films Scooby Doo, Scooby Doo 2: Monsters at Large and Beverly Hills Chihuahua. The plot of The Smurfs is being kept under wraps, but viewers are sure to see beloved characters like Papa Smurf and Smurfette, as well as their nemesis Gargamel. The film will be released on December 17, 2010.
