The director of the PNP Highway Patrol Group in the Philippines resigned from his post after a video showing his son hitting an HPG trainee went viral. Police Brig. Gen. Clifford Gairanod said that he resigned to allow for an investigation into the incident which took place during a graduation ceremony in Sariaya, Quezon. Gairanod’s son, Police Captain Clifton Gairanod, was also relieved of his duties after the incident. According to Gairanod, the hitting incident was part of a tradition that took place during the pinning of riders’ badges on graduates. The authorities are investigating the incident and urging police to follow the law and policies during their training.
