The director of CEG Effehoute, Salomon Tchabi ADIMI, was kidnapped by unidentified armed individuals on the night of Tuesday March 21, 2023, in the district of Idigny, commune of Kétou. According to the information gathered, the victim and his wife were having dinner in a cafeteria when they were surrounded by a group of armed men. The wife’s mobile phone was recovered before the kidnappers fled with Salomon Tchabi ADIMI towards the Benin-Nigeria border.
Director of the CEG and teacher of SVT, Salomon Tchabi ADIMI had been appointed to his post in 2022. Following his abduction, the collective of directors of the municipality of Kétou went to his house to show their support. However, the victim remains untraceable at this time.
The kidnapping of Salomon Tchabi ADIMI is not an isolated case in the region, as an economic operator had also been kidnapped and released recently. The kidnappers would have demanded a ransom of 20 million CFA francs for the release of the director of the CEG. The kidnapping of Salomon Tchabi ADIMI has aroused great concern in the region, where kidnappings are more and more frequent. The local authorities have promised to do everything possible to find the victim and apprehend the culprits. The Beninese government also condemned this criminal act and affirmed that it would make every effort to find the director of the CEG.
In this difficult context, it is important to remember that kidnappings are unacceptable criminal acts and that they have dramatic consequences for the victims and their loved ones. The authorities must redouble their efforts to ensure the safety of the population and put an end to these criminal practices which threaten the stability and development of the country. Residents of the region are urged to work with security forces to report suspicious activity and help in the fight against kidnapping and crime.
