MÁLAGA, Jun 14 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Conde de Guadalhorce reservoir, in Ardales (Málaga), will host the first rowing days organized by the Malaga sports association Dragon Boat BSC from June 21 to 27. The activity is open to all women who have suffered from breast cancer and aimed especially at those in the regions of Guadalhorce and Guadalteba.
It is an activity considered as a “tool to improve your health and quality of life”, as reported by the first vice president and deputy for Education, Youth and Sports of the Malaga Provincial Council, Juan Carlos Maldonado.
“With the strength of the dragon, after cancer there is life and the good”, is the slogan of this group, which emerged in the province in 2018, and which uses this sports modality “as therapy for overcoming”, said Maldonado, who has praised the work of these women “strong and fighters; true dragons, survivors of breast cancer, who fill every corner of our earth with energy.”
It is not the first time that the Diputación de Málaga collaborates with this group. Last November, the Sports Service promoted the 1st Dragon Boat Winter Regatta ‘Rowing for life’, which was a successful participation. This sports modality of rowing has been used as a therapeutic discipline for breast cancer since 1996, as a result of studies carried out by the University of British Columbia, in Canada, which demonstrated the benefits of exercising the torso and arms for drainage lymphatic. A physical improvement that results in the emotional well-being of these women.
In this sense, Nikolaja Fiebiger, president of Málaga Dragon Boat BCS, thanked the Diputación de Málaga for its support because “the important thing is that this project has dissemination. “We are all volunteers and cancer patients and our lives have changed for the physical improvement and the mental change of not feeling alone. Because it is very hard when you recover and you have passed the worst; the check-ups arrive and you feel a little more alone * we want to do what we did before and be able to feel good, “he emphasized.
Along these lines, he pointed out that “there are more and more of us and we need to support each other in sports and reach out to all those women who live in the interior and do not have access to large associations or sports teams so that they can get to know us,” said Fiebiger. On the 26th and 27th there will be some days of technical improvement, “so that we can prevent, improve physically and in the next sporting events to be able to compete”.
For his part, the mayor of Ardales, Juan Alberto Naranjo, stressed that “becoming a sports, tourism and health headquarters is the perfect combination” and pointed out that the facilities of the local campsite will be open to accommodate all women who participate in the sessions, which she hopes will be “fun and very fruitful.”
The registration period is now open and can be done through the email ay [email protected]. The event was also attended by the Councilor for Welfare of the Ardales City Council, María Arjona; María Eugenia García, secretary of Málaga Dragon Boat BCS; Rosa María Valle, author of the poster and partner of Málaga Dragon Boat BCS, and Juan Carlos Marfil, rowing captain of Real Club Mediterráneo.
