The diplomat failed. Poklonskaya’s new position

Natalia Poklonskaya

Russian President Vladimir Putin relieved Natalya Poklonskaya of her duties as Russian ambassador to Cape Verde and appointed her deputy head of Rossotrudnichestvo.

Natalia Poklonskaya, accused in Ukraine of treason, continues to change positions. Poklonskaya gained wide popularity in 2014, when she was appointed prosecutor in the Russian-annexed Crimea. Then she managed to be a State Duma deputy, the Russian ambassador to Cape Verde and now the deputy head of Rossotrudnichestvo.

Didn’t work with Cape Verde

Poklonskaya was appointed Russia’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Cape Verde in October last year, but in January she said she was not going to take office due to changed personal circumstances.

This was confirmed by the Russian Foreign Ministry, without specifying what kind of personal circumstances they are talking about.

Cape Verde is a country located on the Cape Verde Islands, 600 km off the west coast of Africa.

As it became known about Poklonskaya’s foreign trip, Ukraine planned to ask Cape Verde to extradite her ex-prosecutor. But Poklonskaya never made it to Africa.

For the king

Rossotrudnichestvo, where Poklonskaya will now work, is a federal agency under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Its formal functions include relations with the CIS countries, compatriots living abroad, support for Russian language teaching centers.

Prior to her appointment as ambassador, Poklonskaya – since October 2016 – was a State Duma deputy, where she was deputy chairman of the international affairs committee. Russian media wrote that they did not want to see Poklonskaya in the State Duma of the next convocation because of some of her statements and activities as a deputy.

In particular, Poklonskaya turned out to be the only United Russia member who voted against raising the retirement age, and also attracted a lot of attention when she actively fought against the film by Alexei Uchitel Matilda.

Poklonskaya spent a whole year trying to ban the screening of the film, which tells about the novel of the last Russian emperor Nicholas II, ranked by the church as a martyr, with the ballerina Matilda Kshesinskaya.

The discussion she raised about whether the film offends the feelings of believers turned into arson of the building where the film director’s office is located, and local bans on distribution in the regions.

In May 2016, Poklonskaya came to the Immortal Regiment with the icon of Nicholas II.
