In 2021, through the activism and experience of Olimpia Coral Melo and the Digital Defendersit was possible to approve the Olympia Law. This reform imposes sentences of up to six years in prison for people who disseminate intimate and sexual content without consentThis movement brought to light the reality of digital violence and the effects it has on the lives of women, who before that time had no type of protection from the State.

Olimpia Coral Melo, assures that it is about “a Latin American political movement that seeks to ensure that women are safe in digital spaces. It is not just the reform, it is the community that was created around it. It is based on the resilience of women who have been victims of digital violence. Not only from pain, but mainly from love.”

Since then, the organization Digital Defenders has been dedicated to promoting reform and Provide victims with tools to carry out their complaintsin addition to psychological support. But the requests became so many that the exceeded. They could spend all day checking social media Digital Defenders y Olympia Lawand yet it was impossible to answer and advise everyone.

With this background, it was born Olympia IA.

The platform was presented last Wednesday, September 4, 2024 at the Universum museum, attended by Edith Pontla, co-founder of AuraChatIAMarcela Hernandez Oropa de National Front for SororityEnrique Partida, CEO and co-founder of AuraChatIA and Yolitzin Jaimes, feminist disseminator Olimp.IA.

Edith Pontla, co-founder of AuraChat AI (the company that developed the algorithm and artificial intelligence behind this project) explained that, “Olimpia.IA is the set of almost 10 years of information recovered from Digital Defenders. Contains information psycho-emotional, legal and technological. Recover cases of digital violence and use that data to be able to help those who use it”.

Its primary functions will be assist victims without having to wait for a human response already Generate statistics easily and accurately. Previously the statistics they had generated for other reports had been completely manual, which took a lot of time. They hope that from the implementation of Olympia.IA, data recovery can be easier, facilitating the creation of more complete reports to demonstrate what actions should be taken at the government and public policy levels.

Olimpia.IA will be the way in which victims can obtain information related to what they have experienced immediately, regardless of the time and in 30 different languages. Its creators hope that it can help fill that space that they have not been able to fill humanly due to the number of questions they receive every day. However, It does not seek to be a total replacement, but rather a first approach.

This first stage of artificial intelligence is a fundamental part of the containment of victims when experiencing digital violence. Without proper containment or attention, the negative consequences of these acts of violence increase. This means that there are more women in suicide risk, depressive and anxiety stages without the required attention.

Yolitzin Jaimes commented that:

“Without support, without psycho-emotional support, it is not enough. And I want to emphasize that it is the government that should be providing this service to the victims. A psychological session is not enough, it has to be a comprehensive process.”

The second stage -under construction- will seek integrate the necessary institutions to connect them with the victimsIn this way, anyone who uses the platform will be able to receive information and advice, but will also be able to be directed to the necessary people to continue with their case. This will make it a smoother and easier process for them.

Olimpia Coral Melo commented at the closing of the event that, “it is the first algorithm in the world created by and for women. This algorithm, this technology, was programmed by us. The lawyers, the anthropologists, the feminists. Those of us who don’t have a degree but are in the street putting up banners, talking to women. It was us. We screwed up the patriarchal algorithm and it was all of us.”

Olimp.IA is available 24 hours a day if you need advice or information about cases of digital violence. It is a WhatsApp chat that you can access by scanning the following QR code:
