Egypt’s confrontation with Denmark in the quarter-finals of the World Handball Championship became inevitable, after it was confirmed that the Pharaohs were in the fourth group for the main role behind Sweden, while the descendants of the Vikings secured the top of Group Two.
Denmark, the World Cup holder in its last edition in 2019, did not receive any loss in the current world championship, despite the low expectations before the tournament, especially after it ranked 13th in the last edition of the 2020 European Nations Cup.
The Denmark team succeeded during the first round of the current world championship to overtake Argentina, Bahrain and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, before defeating Qatar and Japan in the main round and leaving a match against Croatia that will not affect their ranking.
The Croatian national team needs to beat Denmark and wait for a Qatari gift against Argentina in the final round of the main round, which will increase its strength against Egypt’s next competitor, making the vision more clear given that it is the strongest confrontation with the Vikings.
The digital statistics during the current edition of the tournament do not show an overwhelming superiority for Denmark compared to the Egyptian numbers, whether in defense, offensive or at the goalkeeping level in both teams.
The Danish national team scored 170 goals during its previous matches in the tournament, out of a total of 231 shots on goal, while Egypt scored 184 goals from 268 shots, in light of the Pharaohs playing an extra match that was against Slovenia.
Both teams are also close in playing on the circuit, as evidenced by the number of goals they scored from this region after Denmark scored 38 goals from 47 shots compared to 40 scored by Egypt’s players from 56 shots.
Although Denmark has three players who act as correction pads from outside the 9-meter area, the Egyptian team has the advantage in this statistic, with 32 goals from 74 shots compared to 21 goals for Vikings from 45 shots only.
Triple Mikel Hansen, Mensah Larsen and the 21-year-old Matthias Gidzel are the back attacking trio of Denmark,
The convergence between the two teams is also evident in the rates of penalty throws, as Egypt’s players wasted three out of a total of 13 shots they obtained, the same number of throws missed in Denmark, but out of a total of 20 shots.
In terms of goalkeeping, Denmark goalkeeper Niklas Landen is the most prominent in the world in recent years, and even his replacement Thomas Muller, Barcelona goalkeeper, the difference between them is not great.
In spite of this, the duo’s statistics are not better than the Egyptian duo Karim Hindawi and Muhammad al-Tayyar, compared to the arrival of a greater amount of shots on them than the opponents in the past meetings, which has two other indications, the first is the strength of the Danish defense methods and the other is the low level of competitors in past meetings than Face Egypt.
The Danish goalkeeper duo received 162 shots for 53 shots from them, compared to 210 shots by the Egyptian duo, who saved 64 shots, indicating again that there was an extra match for the Pharaohs.
The Denmark pair received 33 shots from the circle to succeed in blocking 9 shots only, compared to 15 saves by Hindawi and the pilot, who received 59 shots from the same area.
Both teams are similar in the number of shots each of them received from outside the 9-meter zone, with 61 shots against Denmark, compared to 63 shots against Egypt, so the European duo responded with 32 shots compared to 25 against the Pharaohs.
Competing teams for Denmark won 13 penalty shootouts during the previous matches, compared to 14 throws for Egypt, where the guards in the world champion responded to a single throw, which is the same number of saves by the Egyptians.
As for the tournament’s top scorer, the Egyptian Mohamed Sanad is the most prominent among the Pharaohs, with 32 goals in 11th place, in front of Mohamed Mamdouh Hashem, who is in 14th place with 29 goals, and the Dane, Matthias Gidzel, comes in 219th with 28 goals.
The tournament scorers ’statistic is opposite and disliked especially in handball, as the presence of a single scorer for any team or in the lead in general with a large difference from his closest colleague, is a dependence on one individual in the team, which makes it easier to control and disrupt him in any match.
