PT Yamaha Indonesia Motor Manufacturing (YIMM) released the R15 V4 in two variants, namely R15 Connected and R15M Connected ABS. The difference between the two reached Rp 4.6 million. What are the differences?
Radityo Andi Dharma, Manager of Branding & Promotion Department of PT YIMM explained that the two are similar in design, the only difference is in terms of features.
Both the R15 Connected and R15 Connected ABS share the R Series DNA design language. On the fascia, there is an M Shape Intake Duct in which an LED projector headlamp is installed in the middle. Not only that, there are LED eyebrows that function as Daytime Running Lights that blend into the cowling area.
“This motorbike is the embodiment of the design of the latest generation R-Series which inherits the design character of the YZR-M1, R1, and R7 to create a true aerodynamic supersport appearance with a big bike look, from the front view there is an M-Shaped Intake Duct equipped with an LED Projector. Headlights, as well as twin eyes LED position lights that blend with the cowling as the newest face of the R-Series,” said Radityo at the virtual launch, Wednesday (1/12/2021).

Radityo then explained that the two types of variants already have a lower drag coefficient than the previous version.
“We conducted tests in the form of Cfd Analysis repeatedly to improve the level of aerodynamic efficiency. As a result, the aerodynamic drag coefficient (CdA) was reduced from 0.307 to 0.293, which provides the advantage of achieving top speed faster,” he explained.

Several standard features are installed on the Yamaha R15 V4, including a USD (Upside Down) suspension, Slipper Clutch Assist, and a banana rear swing arm.
For the frame, this motorbike is still faithful to the shape of the deltabox frame, then the super large rear tire with a profile of 140 mm super wide radial tire.
Other equipment that becomes the standard package is the Yamaha R15 V4 equipped with a cluster panel like that of the R1. This feature displays a number of indicators, such as gear, street, track, quick shifter, battery status, fuel status, speedometer, tachometer, odometer, tripmeter, including SMS alerts and calling alerts.
The cluster panel has also been connected to the Yamaha Motorcycle Connect feature, as is already in the Yamaha MAXI line (Nmax and Aerox). Now, specifically for the highest variant of R15M Connected-ABS, it is equipped with the most complete features.
“The R15M Connected-ABS has all the advantages of the R15 Connected, plus exclusive features that are only found in this product,” said Radityo.
Special features in R15M Connected ABS
Interestingly, the R15M Connected ABS is getting more and more big bike aura in the cockpit area. The cluster panel can be selected in two modes, namely Track and Street.
“In this area (the cockpit) we present the aura of a big bike look through the smart cockpit design concept where the full digital speedometer design is inspired by the R1, and has two views to choose from, namely street mode and track mode,” explained Radityo.

“Furthermore, the triple clamp is specially designed inspired by the YZR-M1, to provide optimal balance and rigidity,” he said.
No less cool, the Yamaha R15M is equipped with a traction control feature that can prevent the rear wheels from slipping during acceleration. To support driving safety, the Yamaha R15M Connected is equipped with a dual channel ABS feature. Features that are usually attached to premium motorcycles on the R15M include Quick Shifter, and Big Bike Engine Switch Off.

Specifically, the Yamaha R15M gets several different components that make it appear more exclusive. The parts include the R15M 3D logo and blue fork caps with the R15M logo.

The display is okay, how is the engine performance? on paper this motorbike is equipped with a liquid-cooled 155.09 cc single-cylinder engine. The size of the diameter and step is 58 mm x 58.7 mm, the output can produce power of 14.2 kW at 10,000 rpm and a maximum torque of 14.7 Nm at 8,500 rpm, the power has not changed from the previous generation. The ability of the Yamaha R15 V4 is mated to a 6-speed transmission.
Price and Variants
The All New R15M Connected-ABS consists of a choice of Icon Performance colors and a Yamaha World Grand Prix 60th Anniversary livery. While the All New R15 Connected has Icon Blue and Tech Black colors.
