The dialogue continues in Documento – Francis Parasiris: The suit and the All Stars of the center-left – 2024-08-18 01:02:54

Documento continues the dialogue on the reconstruction of the progressive space by hosting opinions of renowned scientists and politicians who submit their own opinion and pose their own questions to the public debate. The MP Giorgos Karameros answers whether SYRIZA can threaten the ND alone and whether it should look at the developments in PASOK and with which executives. “PASOK must take off its suit and put on its All Stars again” states MP Frangiskos Parasiris allegorically. “Which of the leaders and leaders of the current left and center-left parties would put their personal ambitions for the good of unity in the band? And which party accepts to dissolve in order to give birth to a new one?” asks emeritus professor of Criminology and former minister Yiannis Panousis.

In Greece, the collective nostalgia of the great times for the center-left, often romantic, changes depending on the economic conditions. Neoliberalism is thriving, the obsession with the oligopolistic structure of the economy is frightening, the now indiscernible boundaries between public and private create additional insecurities and of course the woke politics is more muddying than clearing the waters of the party landscape.

The re-establishment of social democracy is a one-way street. However, the shift should not be a more “technocratic”, centrist path, but a deep questioning of political immobility.

So if it is attempted on the basis of the compromise of the common tangents between center-right and center-left politicians, the circle will remain incomplete, the attempt will fail.

With a political system fragmented, with the edges strengthened, the country risks returning to “ground zero”: 2012.

For PASOK-KINAL, the field is wide, albeit with obstacles.

The road is difficult, but we have to describe with distinct lines our vision for Greece and the Greeks.

At a time when SYRIZA is searching for an identity and ND is boasting about an overrated neoliberalism, we with an aggressive, real reason must describe the governance model of a new phase. The limits are set by the size of the power of the big economic giants. The different perception of the environment and climate change, our own view that the green transition must also be fair, our concern for young people and the huge inequalities make us different from a government fixated on its own totems and from an opposition which is limited to debunked myths.

The beautified models with the culture of excellence, the big shapes that facilitate the big players, the appeal to the digital age in terms of new employment for the workers, the bot service that is well emancipated by the public bureaucracy, if first it does not guarantee the work environment, the sustainability of the social state, if it is not shaped with a human focus, “monsters will be born”. And in the age of monsters, illusions are created. The point of convergence of the center-left must be the struggle in the streets, in the workplaces, in the youth, in the field of economic and social action.

That is why it is urgent to connect as a political space with the description of a new model of social welfare.

Against ND and SYRIZA, we maintain the home advantage. It is the concept of the democratic faction. A concept that should not simply remain historically and value-laden, but be redefined and with political purity give clear answers. PASOK must take off the suit and put on its All Stars again, SYRIZA must overcome the fiction of the “evil” with legal and journalistic extremes for the scandals of the Right. The Right is defeated with answers.

We start from the political autonomy of the space.

We continue to reinvent our identity connection with a broad social audience that we, through our own mistakes, have put on hold.

The syndrome of fearing the worst should not concern us. Because fear shapes a society of limited expectations and tempered visions. We must describe, quickly, however, a more humane life. And then we will win.
