Dr. Hossam Mowafi, Professor of Critical Care Medicine at Kasr Al-Ainy, revealed that there are two different types of diabetes, and they may be two different diseases in terms of complications, treatment method, and patient lifestyle.

Muwafi explained, during the program “My Lord, Increase Me Knowledge” broadcast on Sada Al-Balad channel, that type 1 diabetes is dependent on insulin, and it is forbidden for him to fast without arguing, stressing that he will be liable to suffer from a decrease in sugar levels in the body, which may threaten his life.

The Professor of Critical Care Medicine at Kasr Al-Ainy confirmed that the brain consumes the most sugar and glucose, and without sugar it stops working.
Mowafi pointed out that the second type depends on the cumulative sugar analysis, pointing out that the sugar analysis at any time has no value, without considering the cumulative measurement.
Muwafi added that sugar sticks to 5% of the red blood cells, and in the event of an increase in the sugar level, it sticks to more percentages of the red blood cells, explaining that a diabetic patient who does not receive insulin, and the cumulative amount is more than 6%, should not fast.
