The incident happened in the eighth over of the match. On the second ball of the eighth over, Suryakumar Yadav decided to play a sweep shot off Mitchell Santner. Suryakumar, who tried to sweep the ball towards the leg side, missed it. Dhoni took the ball. Everyone appealed for a wicket and the umpire denied it.

Dhoni left the umpire’s decision to the DRS to reconsider. In the replay, the umpire’s decision was proved to be wrong. The replay revealed that the ball hit Suryakumar’s glove when he attempted a sweep shot. The umpire overturned the decision and ruled out. Suryakumar got out after taking just one run off two balls. There are not few people who call the decision review system as “Dhoni review system”.
